MIRIAM BOOKS

  ZIONIST ART AND CULTURE

MIRIAM BOOKS is a non-profit publisher of visual, literary and cultural works, dedicated to fostering Zionism as an avant-garde force for artistic and intellectual progress in the 21st century.

Through publications and presentations, we seek to promote new creative works that express the centrality of Israel to modern Jewish experience, identity and existence.

"Artists will fully understand why I, who otherwise reason clearly, have allowed extravagances and dreams to vegetate wildly [in these notes]."
-Theodor Herzl, 1895, on the writing of The Jewish State

About Us:
MIRIAM BOOKS is named for the mothers of its co-founders Alan Kaufman and Polly Zavadivker.
Alan's mother Marie survived the Holocaust in France, and Polly's mother Maryana left the Soviet Union for the United States in 1979. Both women, of blessed memory, were passionately committed to Israel and Zionism. The work of Miriam Books is a testament to their lives, as survivors of two 20th century regimes that sought to eradicate Jewish life and spirit.
