Sound Effects Libraries | What is the Difference Between Them?

When looking at sound effects libraries, there are a few key differentiators. You will especially want to know the difference between sound effects libraries if you want to ensure a high quality production. Not all sound FX libraries come in the same style or quality! Here are a few of the most critical things you should look for in sound FX libraries.
Firstly, the recording quality in sound FX librariesng> are probably one of the most critical deciphering factors. Traditional sound FX libraries will come with 16 bit / 44.1 kHz recorded sound effects. If you have a half decent audio card on your workstation you will want to go with the 16 bit version. If you are serious about your sound design, there are many sound FX libraries that today are being offered in 24 bit / 48 kHz with some being offered in a high definition 24 bit / 96 kHz format. Cutting edge sound effects libraries are being pushed to be delivered in 24 bit / 96 kHz format, while at the same time providing other compatible versions of the sound effects on the same library (such as 16 bit) which allow you to choose whatever format you might need.
Another deciphering item is the actual saved file format the sound effects are saved in. When sound effects libraries are offered in MP3 format they diminish the quality of the original recording (few are). Most sound effects libraries are offered in a WAV format and are of much higher quality then MP3s (and therefore much larger files). This is still a large reason why sound effects libraries still take up multiple CDs or whole hard drives when you purchase them.
Next, if you want to seriously consider the full effect of sound effects libraries, one should consider surround sound. Surround sound FX libraries are created in true 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound, the audio standard for surround sound productions. Surround sound adds realism and depth to your production, placing the viewer or listener and making them feel like they are in the middle of your production. Surround sound FX can be especially effective when creating ambiences and background sound effects.
Finally, it’s important to consider the search tools for indexing your sound FX libraries. Often search tools are provided and come along with sound effects libraries. Common search tools people use that they might already have are Pro Tools, AVID, Sound miner, Net mix and others. While all of these are great tools, one of the easiest tools you already have is ITunes. You already likely use it to index a lot of your music, why not your sound effects? Whatever you use, just make sure you’ve thought this through ahead of time and make sure the indexing of your sound FX library is compatible with your search tool.
In summary, when picking sound FX libraries, make sure they are the quality you want, the appropriate file format, decide on whether you want surround sound effects, and finally make sure you can index them and find them when you need them!

Spend a lot of money!!! Thats the easiest way.
January 11th, 2010 at 3:55 amI have been looking for this song for almost a year now! Yay! I found it!

January 11th, 2010 at 4:45 amFront speakers
Front Door: 6×8"
Far rear speakers
Rear Seat Side Panels: 6×8"
you are limited to where you can place it because its a small car and you don't have the room under the seat for a box and/or amp so you are limited to the trunk or the back shelf, but whit the back shelf you have to have "free air or open air" (no box) subs and they are hard to find
as far as where you should go try a car audio shop in your area because they are more knowledgeable than people from best buy and/or circuit city and would be better at helping you choose the correct setup for your taste and car and are much better installers

January 12th, 2010 at 8:47 amOne of my favorite trance songs ^^
January 12th, 2010 at 3:04 pmI doubt its possible. I have set up about 4 surround sound systems. All of them require to switch to the input/component before the signal can output to the speakers. So computer 1 would get it while computer 2 wouldnt be picked up by the receiver.
what i recommend is that, if you have a sound blaster with the internal drive with the connectors, have the media pc spdif out into the alienware and have it played there, while outputting the alienware to the surround sound system.
January 12th, 2010 at 11:15 pmwell it depends if u want it to be loud, or a clean sound
if u want it to be loud go with some type of Alpine amp, and eather get Alpine or Kicker subs
if u want a clean sound, still go with a Alpine or a small rockford amp, and get some Eclipse subs
in my car i had kickers, eclipse, and alpine, and i happen to like alpine the best but thats just me, u decide wat type of sound u like but i would go with one of those 3.

Stay away from Sony and those other crap brands. if you want bang, you go with big names. Pioneer.JL Audio. ETC. these ones I linked you have a 3 year warranty. Ebay is your friend- these are much cheaper on Ebay (in the same condition) than they would be at best buy or similar.
I wouldn't bother with the rear speakers, I really wouldn't.
January 13th, 2010 at 11:18 am@davham88 its good but its way over used…. stupid chicken? lmao gimp and wtf is respond, loser?
January 13th, 2010 at 11:52 amThe radio/tape player and temperature controls are on the same face plate.
8>/ if you mess with that radio you're in troub. you'll prob have to use same head unit. sometimes you cant even have an After market systems with those stupid things. go to a shop and let them look at it. then go to flebay and get 2 mtx 15"s in a sealed box and a kicker zx1500.1.
fixed.
January 13th, 2010 at 4:18 pmConnect optical or composite cables ( red & white ) output from cable box or TV to system input.

January 14th, 2010 at 3:42 amThe pic looks like a Supernova! beautiful!! and the song just puts me in another demension! Awesome!
January 14th, 2010 at 6:25 amWhy not just replace the wires? A spool of speaker cable, and maybe some new clips, is a whole lot cheaper than buying a whole new system – which would still require you buy wire anyways.
If the wires can't be replaced then I guarantee that it wasn't a very good system to begin with and you'll be better off buying a proper system with separate speakers and a receiver.
As for what the "best" system is, that's a rather tough question to answer… You easily spend twenty, fifty, even one hundred thousand dollars on a set of speakers, but you might also be happy with a set of speakers that's only a few hundred dollars.
To go shopping for speakers, head to the store with a favorite music CD and DVD movie. This will allow you to sample the speakers with material that you're very familiar with. What you're listening for is a speaker that sounds good at both high and low volumes. The high and low pitched sounds should be clear – not tinny or muddled.
